Artist Bio/Statement

The blue musicians are my son. Like him, carrying the music inside them until we are allowed to hear it through the grumbling tones of a saxophone or the sharp lines of the trombone, we know not of their experiences. But when they play, we can feel it. We may not know the details or even understand it, it’s visceral. That is what jazz is in my work. It is the instinctual part of my life and the painting of it allows me to give you a visual excerpt of it. A life that revolves around healing, autism, creativity and awareness. The combination of the jazz and the blue hued musicians give you a sense of the deep-rooted experiences that are heavily influenced by my son and living in his autistic world. Me, sitting, straining to look into his secret world. A world that has had a profound impact on my life. Leaving me wondering if I have had the same impact on his.
